Summer, Sun, Son, GrandSon, Swimming, Sailing, Strawberries, Screens.....and Time....

...............................Live
a three-dimensioned life;
stay away from screens.

- Wendell Berry

Yes, I know. I repeat.
But how can I not with that sentence of gold?

How can I not, with the Nordic summer being so short, the sun so yellow, the grass so green, the sky so blue? How can I sit in front of screens with the sea sparkling as the iris of an eye and the wild strawberries insist, pick me, pick me and pearl me on a straw?

How can I be indoors with daylight lasting and lasting, with dusk igniting the smallest object enlarging it with colors that burn?

How can I live in two dimensions with my cute, cuddly, curios grandson crawling by my feet, laughing as he grabs a buttercup, the lid of a jam jar or my naked big toe?

For in a blink it is over. The summer is gone. The strawberries are memory. And my grandson a grown up man............

  3. Dearest Grete, I'm so glad that you're enjoying summer to its fullest. Such beautiful images you have here, I'm taking them all in with perfect delight.

I live in a tropical climate with either very hot days or persistent rainfalls, but living on higher grounds makes it feel like autumn all year long. :)

Have a wondrous summer, Grete! :))

  4. So beautiful. The photos, the words...
You can repeat Mr. Berry's sentence as many times as you wish. It is so true.
"and summmer's lease hath all too short a date"
    Enjoy it, Grete!

  5. Yes indeed. Blogging is more of an autumn, winter, spring past-time. Even then balancing it against the risk of forgetting to be present. If children teach us anything at all it is that time passes too quickly ... and most particularly when we fail to notice and enjoy the present. xxx Jos

  7. Ah yes, especially to the last line. I can do with the passing of this heat. And I wonder on putting a straw through strawberries. Do you not lose some of the sacred meat?

What are your Nordic summers like, Grete? How hot does it get? When does it begin and end? How you enjoy seems much how we do, although I'm afraid I'm much more in my comfort zone in the fall in the woods.

    enjoy~
